November 2006
Over 1,200 Households Served
Editor: Joseph K. Britan

From Our Mayor
Jay F. Feibelman
After a fun filled year of construction meetings, nail biting, and sometimes sleepless nights, the reward for our efforts is here. We plan on moving to the new Garden Ridge City Hall complex around the middle of November. A grand opening for all will be announced. During the relocation process, please bear with us for any inconvenience.
Initial offices to be moved will be water billing and the Court Clerk to minimize interruption to essential customer services. Please bear with us during this time.
When you visit the new complex, you will know it’s all worth it.
Thank you for your past and future support.

United Way of Comal County
The United Way of Comal County wraps up the annual fund drive on December 1st. Approximately 20 percent of the United Way of Comal County funds come from residents who work outside the County and designate their gift to come home.
Since many Garden Ridge residents work in San Antonio, it is important to know that your United Way gift can be designated to United Way of Comal County to assist the 26 health and human service organizations in Comal County. These organizations work with children, teens, families and individuals in crisis, disabled, and the elderly in our community. A listing of agencies can be obtained by calling the United Way of Comal County office in New Braunfels at 830-620-7760 or visiting our web site at www.uwcomal.org.

Since many United Way agencies in San Antonio only serve Bexar County residents, it’s important to make sure your caring counts where you live. The designation code for Comal County this year is #46593. This option is also available to federal employees through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), State employees in the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC), School employees in the Combined School Campaign and Bexar County and City of San Antonio employees in their campaigns and United Way campaigns in many other companies. If you check the acknowledgement statement on the designation form, we will receive a listing of your gift and send you a thank you note to ensure your gift was received in Comal County.

Please make your caring count for what matters in Comal County

GENERAL ELECTION
There is a Special Election (due to the redrawing of the District) for the U.S. Representative for District 21. You must vote that special election separately from the General Election. Caution: Voting a straight party ballot in the General Election will NOT include a vote for the special election.

Lions Club Thank You

On behalf of the Garden Ridge - Bracken Lions’ Club, I thank everyone in the community who helped make our annual Fish Fry, BBQ, and Auction a great success. Because of your generous contributions, we will be able to continue many important services to our community. The Lions in our club could not achieve our civic and humanitarian goals without the support of our entire community.
Last year we were able to provide Christmas groceries and gifts to many needy families, scholarships to local high school graduates and Texas Lions Camp counselors. We are major contributors to the Texas Lions Camp for Disabled Children in Kerrville, and Lions Club International, which is the leader in providing blindness prevention services, leader dogs for the blind, diabetes prevention and research and many other services. We also support other local organizations such as the Bracken Fire Department, Boy Scouts, Garden Ridge Library, Texas Boys and Girls State and many others.

Thanks to all of you who donated and volunteered to work before, during and after the Fish Fry, BBQ, and Auction. We could not pull off an event of this magnitude without everyone’s help. For membership information, contact Jay Feibelman at
651-6094.

The planning process has already begun for next year’s event which is scheduled to be held the first Saturday in October at the Garden Ridge Community Center. See Ya There!
