From Our Mayor
Jay F. Feibelman
Too many to thank, but a great 4th of July party. So many were involved to bring about this success and I thank you personally. I was hoping it would rain — and I’m still hoping. In that regard, as I write this on July 17th, our Trinity Well level is dropping like a rock. Garden Ridge residents are using an average of 1.5 million gallons per day. The scary thing is, we do not know where the danger point, level-wise, is in the Trinity as we do with the Edwards. I continue to appeal to you — Please Conserve. I hope it has rained as you read this!
Have a fun, safe summer!

Library Footnotes
by Suzanne McCandless
Many of us as children were introduced to the classics through a series of books called the Great Illustrated Classics. Now your Garden Ridge Library has expanded, by eleven, their collection of these books, thanks to a generous donation. Some of the new titles are Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, David Copperfield, and The War of the Worlds.
The current heat wave makes this the perfect time to stay indoors and sample the library’s new additions. You might want to dip into a new biography like Christopher Buckley’s story of his parents’ lives, Losing Mum and Pup.
A new mystery series set in the turbulent Middle Ages might tempt some: The Queen’s Man and Dragon’s Lair; both by Sharon Kay Penman are short, exciting mysteries to while away a hot summer afternoon.
The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barberry, American Heroes: Profiles of Men and Women Who Shaped Early America, by Edmund S. Morgan, and Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto, by Mark R. Levin, are among the new arrivals. Several have been acquired at the request of a patron. Is there a volume, perhaps a new release or old favorite, that you would like the library to obtain for you? Let us know.
Finally, if your eyes are hungry for wonderful French food, and you want an intriguing story set in occupied France during World War II, try Five Quarters of the Orange by Joanne Harris. She also wrote Chocolat.

Save the Date
The third annual Holiday A’Fair Marketplace will be Saturday, October 17th from 10am to 4pm at the Garden Ridge Community Center. There will be over 50 vendors, food, door prizes, a silent auction, and lots of fun you will not want to miss! This event is sponsored by the Knotty Knotters, a special interest group of the Garden Ridge Women's Club. All proceeds will be donated to local
charities.
