June 2008 Over 1,200 Households Served Publisher: Jay Feibelman
Editor: Joseph K. Britan

From Our Mayor
Jay F. Feibelman

Why did time go so slowly when I was in high school and now is a blur? Another summer that promises to be hot and dry. I wish everyone a happy and safe summer and urge you to drive and play safely. Water conservation issues are looming; hopefully the rains will come. To fully enjoy consider adopting a homeless pet. There are lots of sweeties out there ready and able to give long term, unconditional love! It’s easy and inexpensive. See the web page and telephone numbers in the article: City Holding Facilities.
After much coordination with TXDOT, hopefully the turn lanes into Georg Ranch and Trophy Oaks off of FM 3009 are completed. This should reduce a serious traffic safety hazard.
Have a good one and as always, thank you for your support in making Garden Ridge the “best of the best”.

National Night Out

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
August 5 - 7 to 9 pm

National Night Out is August 5, 2008 - 7 to 9pm at the Community Center sponsored by American Bank of Texas.
This year, Digi Kids sponsored by your local Ameriprise Financial Advisors — Doris Dollar and Ivan Friend — will have equipment to fingerprint and photograph your children. In case of an emergency, your children’s finger prints and photograph will be in a national data base for reference. Last year it was such a big success, that they kindly decided to sponsor it again. This community is grateful for their generosity.
We will have a theme “Meet Your Neighbors and Community” with picnic tables where you may sit and eat the free food that is provided and meet your neighbors.
We would like local churches, homeowner associations, clubs, sports groups and scouts to participate by manning a table. There will be tables to sign up new residents to register to vote and one to verify names that will be in the 2009 Garden Ridge Phone Directory.
Jerry Warden of Texas Parks and Wildlife will be there with his “skins and skulls” display that attendees can touch and learn about wildlife.
There will be a face painter and bounce machine for the children, as well as fire equipment from the Bracken VFD and helpful information from the GRPD. Mark the first Tuesday in August on your calendar.
Contact Mickey Sanders at 651-5782 if you would like a table

Quarry Happenings

On May 12, 2008, the Quarry Commission held its monthly meeting.
The Vibra Tech representative reviewed the blasting analysis data from April and reported that there were 15 blasts with the highest reading on the seismograph monitors occurring on April 9th. Other high readings occurred on April 2nd, 8th, 10th, and 15th. Three blasts were on the lower 50 foot level, nine blasts were on the west wall, and three blasts were near the clay seam.
Thirty-two of forty-five readings registered 14 HZ or higher. Please note that blast readings that register at 14 Hz or higher are less likely to cause a residence to shake. Blast readings below 14 Hz are more likely to produce noticeable shaking of a structure.
A Commissioner reported that the new Holcim Quarry will be a limestone quarry. Citizens interested in learning more about this quarry can access the website www.nomoreblasting.com.
More details about the Quarry Commission meetings are available at the City Municipal Building or on the City’s web site.
Citizens who are interested in having quarry blasts monitored at their residence should contact a member of the Quarry Commission. Citizens are invited to attend the next Quarry Commission meeting on June 9, 2008 at 7 pm. Read agenda.

More details about the Quarry Commission meetings are available at the City Municipal Building or on the Quarry Commission page of this website.
